Recently, a poll for “the Most Beautiful Wetland in China” was sponsored by CCTV-13 on Weibo that attracted responses from 210,000 netizens. Amongst the10 wetlands polled for nationwide, Kunming’s Dianchi Wetland stood out, and was voted the most popular and beautiful wetland.

日前，由中央电视台新闻频道发起的“中国最美湿地”微博评选投票活动吸引了21 万网友参与投票，昆明滇池湿地在全国参与投票的10 个湿地中脱颖而出，成为人气最高的“最美湿地”。

There are 45 species of hornbill in the world and they are mainly distributed across Africa and Asia. In China, hornbills are found in the west and south of Yunnan. In Xishuangbanna(a Dai autonomous prefecture in Yunnan), where the hornbills inhabit, Daipeople value the faithful love between hornbills very much and consider it a bird that symbolizes love. Nowadays, peopleare still talking about the legend of certain Dai couple. In the Dehong Dai andJingpo Autonomous Prefecture, Jingpo people have enshrined hornbills as the“Holy Bird”.

全世界采集到的犀鸟品种共有45 种，主要分布在非洲及亚洲南部，中国地区的犀鸟则主要分布于云南西部、南部。在犀鸟的居住地西双版纳，傣家人十分珍视犀鸟的“钟情”特性，将其视为“爱情鸟”，一对傣族恋人的民间传说流传至今；而犀鸟另一居住地德宏地区的景颇族则将其奉为“神鸟”。

A faraway friend asked me to draw him a picturebearing characteristics of Yunnan. I thought about it for a while, and drew apicture, where there were a bright-red setting sun on the upper right corner,snow-white Cangshan Mountain with golden glows under the sun, Erhai Lake lyingin the bottom left corner, and ancient walls reflected in the water.

A story about Jianchuan black pottery

剑川黑陶的故事

Dong Yuechang was busy working in front of pottery kilns built up by him two years ago in his backyard by National Highway No.214 at Tianma Village, Diannan Town, Jianchuan County. The greenwares made by him would turn into “Jianchuan Black Pottery” that is “as black as pitch andshinny as mirror” in eight or nine hours.

214 国道剑川县甸南镇天马村路段，董月畅在自家后院的烧窑前忙碌着，烧窑是董月畅两年前垒建的。约八九个小时后，他制作的陶坯就会华丽变身，成为“黑如漆、明如镜”的“剑川黑陶”。

二战“铁马”

Tengchong, an important city in west Yunnan and a gateway to the inland of China on the Yunnan-Burma Road connecting China and Myitkyina of Myanmar, was responsible for handling military logistics from the allied forces to inland China during the World War II. The vehicles of such makes as Dodge,Ford and Chevrolet that were used to transport military goods, were mostly left behind along the Yunnan-Burma Road after the war, and finally moved back toTengchong as collectibles by Zhou Shicai, the son of a soldier of Chinese Expeditionary Army, during his numerous trips along the road within a span of 30 years.

腾冲，滇西重镇，更是“滇缅公路”通往缅甸密支那的重要节点，二战时期，盟军支援中国的战略物资源源不断地途经这条公路运往内地，那些曾经承载着历史使命的道奇、福特、雪佛兰等车辆，战争结束后大多留在了滇缅路沿线上。远征军后人周世才，用30 年时间，几经重走滇缅路，将这些战时的“铁马”带回了腾冲。

Beef stockpot in Shizong County

师宗牛汤锅

“The deciding factor in whether a beef stockpot is good or not is the quality of the meat,” says Liu Baocai in the restaurant he runs with his wife in Wulong Village, Shizong County. They make beef stockpots. The broth is clear and luscious, and a rich meaty aroma rises from the bowl. It comes with dipping sauce made according to a secret family recipe, containing dry chili, mint and fermented bean curd, leaving in mouth a lingering aftertaste.

在刘保财的店铺里，一锅清香透亮的高汤上桌，浓郁的肉香弥漫开来，配上主人家用干辣椒、薄荷、腐乳等调配的秘制蘸水，唇齿留香。刘保财和妻子是曲靖师宗县五龙乡牛汤锅做得最好的，“牛汤锅要好吃，关键是肉要好。”
